Mission

The mission of the Department of Theatre is to educate our students in the history, theory and practice of the full spectrum of Theatre arts. Students simultaneously engage in research and creative processes in a rich laboratory for experimentation and exploration in performance. Most student learning is experientially based. For both faculty and students, scholarship and practice are mutually constitutive. We prepare professionals and scholars to advance the field through intellectual and artistic productivity and leadership. Within the liberal arts tradition, we foster individual artistry, the collaborative process, and community engagement for the understanding of theatre as an integral component of civil life.
