Comm Studies Peer Advising
Comm Studies Peer advisors are undergraduates majors who volunteer their time to welcome and advise the incoming freshmen and any other Comm Studies students who need advice on course selection, major requirements and/or general NU life. Actual duties include emailing the incoming Comm Studies freshmen class, attending one peer advising lunch session with the freshmen each fall during "new student week", participating in an advising session prior to pre-registration each quarter, and assisting, as needed with special Comm Studies undergraduate programs and dinners. If this sounds like something that you would like to do, email Debra Webster at dwebster@northwestern.edu, and she will add your name to the Comm Studies Peer Advisor list. You will then be contacted prior to the next peer advisor event.
Communication Studies Peer Advisors also represent the department on the Dean's Advisory Council. The DAC consists of twenty undergraduate students currently enrolled in the School (four from each department, representing the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes) of Communication. The DAC meets once each quarter and holds additional meetings as they are needed. Applications are available Winter Quarter from the Undergraduate Resource Center, 1-101 Francis Searle.
