HEARING LOSS MANAGEMENT CLASSES

The Evanston Audiology Service offers Hearing Loss Management Classes for people with hearing loss and their families.   Sessions are tailored to meet the needs of each individual.  Spouses and significant others are encouraged to participate.   Sessions are conducted by graduate clinicians under the supervision of faculty audiologists.  
Topics include:

SPEECHREADING
   Components of lipreading & speechreading
   Limitations related to the speaker, environment, speechreader, and nature of speech

COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES 
   Communication behavior & common communication strategies
   Environmental factors in interpersonal communication
   Hearing loss-related communication problems

ASSISTIVE LISTENING DEVICES & THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)
   Telephone, TV, theater, FM and other devices
   Legal rights under the ADA

HEARING LOSS MANAGEMENT
   Understanding hearing loss, hearing loss prevention
   Hearing loss and it effect on behavior, emotions, thoughts, & relationships 
   Support groups for persons with hearing loss

HEARING AIDS: WHAT THEY CAN AND CANNOT DO FOR YOU
   How hearing aids help hearing loss 
   Hearing aid use and care; troubleshooting hints 

WHEN?   Five, two-hour sessions, meeting once a week
   Times are typically 10 AM – 12 PM or 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
   Individual, one-on-one sessions are taught by a Graduate Clinician; supervised by a faculty audiologist. 

WHERE?   Sessions meet in the Frances Searle Building on the Evanston Campus of Northwestern University

COST?  For individuals with hearing aids purchased from Northwestern, there is a $25.00 registration fee
   For others, there is a $175.00 registration fee
