History of the School

![]()
For 125 years, the School of Communication has provided leadership and vision in the art and science of communication. Since beginning as a single elocution course in 1878, the school has grown in scope and size, becoming one of the most respected institutions for the study of human expression and communication. Throughout our history, we have been awarded with a number of firsts: the first school to study film, the first to offer audiology courses, the first to develop Chamber Theatre, among many others. We invite you to learn more about our interesting and varied history.
